Bobby Fischer
Robert James "Bobby" Fischer (born 1943, died 2008) was a well-known chess personality. He was best known as the 11th World Champion during 1972-1975. He's still the only American to hold that title and the first Western player, only matched by Magnus Carlson in 2010.
Fischer won his title from Boris Spassky in 1972 in a match widely publiziced as the Cold War game. Fischer lost his title in 1975 when he didn't even defend it, as he couldn't get into an agreement with FIDE on the details. Fischer became reclusive and didn't play competitive chess until in 1992, when he played against Spassky in Yugoslavia, getting into trouble with the US government.
You can find interesting Bobby Fischer memorabilia in the eBay, mostly his books and things like photographs of him.
